Design Print
An industrial design protects the visual form of an object, which can be two-dimensional (e.g. a pattern) or three-dimensional (e.g. a toothbrush). The maximum term of protection of a design is 25 years.According to the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property a design can be protected in Switzerland if it is new, sufficiently different from existing designs in material respects and if it is not contrary to morality or law. In addition, the shape of the object must not be solely determined by its function.
